MATH On Friday, September 28, both Grade 5 math classes had a visit with our District Math mentor Denis LeBlanc. Mr. LeBlanc talked about large numbers and used the salaries of NHL players to demonstrate the concepts. He passed out sheets of hockey player salaries and positions and had students choose 20 players with$ 54,000,000 to spend. Each team were directed to make up a dream team that might have a chance to win. We will be keeping an eye on the statistics, collecting and representing the data ,and making predictions based on the data collected. Thanks for opening our eyes to big numbers and helping to make math more real, Mr LeBlanc!

Grade 5 Intensive French Mme. C. Hannah's Class Monday October 1, 2007

A new weekly assignment has started in Intensive French called a weekly vocabulary list. Students will be given their 5 French vocabulary words in sentences on Monday and will be required to copy the work 2 times for homework which will be due each week on Thursday's. Every Thursday students will be given a pre-test and on Friday the real test. What I am checking for in these tests is word recognition and comprehension. These marks will be counted as part of their listening comprehension mark for Intensive French. This week since it is a very short week, students will only copy work one time and the test will take place on Wednesday.

Please continue the RAH! RAH! program where your child is to read at home 10-15 minutes periodically. I will be checking these log books this week to review September's RAH! RAH! logs.
